A personal approach to tiling in Elland

Thoughtful tiling.
At home in Elland.

An Elland bathroom renovation is a chance to make a familiar room more comfortable and easier to use. Original Tile focuses on the details that make a tiled finish feel complete: balanced cuts, well-planned edges and a layout that fits around the actual fixtures. Owner and tiler Dave Ramsden has over 25 years of tiling and multi-skilled trade experience across Yorkshire. Tell him what you would like to keep, what is changing and which part of the room currently lets it down.

A LOCAL PERSPECTIVE

Small-room decisions that make a difference

Elland sits alongside communities including Greetland and West Vale, and its centre is known for independent shops and the historic Rex Cinema. For a bathroom project here, the useful starting point is the room itself rather than a particular fashion. A compact room may benefit from fewer changes of colour, while a carefully placed feature gives a plain wall a stronger purpose.

Think about the view through the doorway, the basin and the area beside the bath together. A decorative tile used sparingly can be more effective than competing patterns. If you are changing the layout, settle the position of fittings before finalising the tile arrangement, especially around recessed shelves, shower controls or a wall-mounted basin.

PLANNING YOUR ELLAND PROJECT

The room.
The details. The difference.

Keep the best features

List the parts of the bathroom you want to retain, such as a bath, basin or recently fitted screen. Tiling around retained items requires a different plan from an empty room. Photographs of seals, edges and concealed pipework access are particularly helpful when discussing the scope.

Avoid awkward slivers

A room can look balanced even when its walls are not symmetrical. Planning the tile grid from the most visible surfaces helps avoid tiny strips at a doorway or window. Tile size should be considered alongside those measurements, rather than selected from the total room area alone.

Coordinate the concealed work

If pipe positions or shower fittings are changing, include that in the brief before choosing the finish. The surfaces behind the tiles and the order of work matter as much as the decorative layer. Confirm who is carrying out each task and when the tiling area will be ready.

Planning work in Elland?

Every room is different. If your question is more specific, ask Dave.

Can a feature wall make a small Elland bathroom too busy?

That depends on pattern, colour contrast and the view from the doorway. Consider a feature behind the basin or inside the shower, with quieter tiles around it. Seeing samples together is more useful than choosing each surface separately.

Must I remove my bathroom before requesting a tiling quote?

No. Photographs and measurements of the existing room are a useful starting point. Explain which fittings will remain. The condition behind existing tiles may need checking during preparation, so the scope should allow for that discussion.
